Just some randomness

A few things, quickly, because The Walking Dead is on.

  • The storm that wasn't there. Lots of buzz about a big snowstorm with promises of four to eight inches, then one to four, then maybe an inch or two in some areas. The sun peeked out from behind the clouds several times today, and a few sad wet snowflakes trickled down late this afternoon. That's about it in Charleston... though I understand the southern part of the state got hit fairly hard. And while we're discussing weather, I'd really appreciate it if the local meteorologists would stop using the word overspreading.
  • The Princess Bride. Yes, the movie. Park Place Cinemas is doing a flashback thing where they show classic or cult films from years ago. Each film shows three times in a week — once on Sunday afternoon and twice on Monday — then they move on to the next one. Pretty cool idea. This week's is The Princess Bride, and today's showing was sold out, something we didn't discover until getting all the way to the theater... so we went home and watched it on DVD. Upcoming: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Breakfast Club. The big screen experience is the draw here, as I've seen just about everything on the schedule.
  • Big breakfast combo. Every once in awhile we'll have a big Sunday breakfast here at the house. No rhyme or reason behind it, just a thing. Today was one of those days. Often, the tricky part of cooking a meal with multiple components is timing, so usually the big Sunday breakfast is a two-person job. This time I did all the cooking for it myself and the timing was perfect. I was pretty happy about that. The best part? There were leftovers, so there's going to be a repeat performance tomorrow morning, minus all the coordination and effort. This makes me pretty happy too.
  • Working it, and not. I'm off tomorrow and so are my offspring. I'm hoping for a nice leisurely day, because I've really earned it these last couple of weeks. The bad news is there's a long holiday drought in front of me after tomorrow... over three months until Memorial Day... then another long drought until Labor Day. Summer tends not to be a busy time at my office, though, so it (hopefully?) won't be as bad. And despite me saying how busy it's been over the last few weeks, this is still the greatest job I've ever had, bar none. I truly love what I do. I strongly suspect that has a lot to do with it.
  • Bugging out. Speaking of the offspring, I discovered today one of them apparently has a fear of spiders. He certainly didn't get that from me. I can remember finding funnel web spiders at his age and tossing grasshoppers into their webs, fascinated because they had a little house they lived in and could hide in. Anyway... in his case if it's not one thing it's another, but even with that, he seems to have a good bit of hesitance when it comes to things which creep and crawl. That strikes me as a little odd.

That's it for now, and probably for the evening.
