Beneath the ice
A few quick notes prior to what I suspect will be one of the busiest workweeks I've had in a long time.
We're in the midst of a freeze which is going to last for the next ten days. Shoving on through, as usual, and waiting for spring. Though at some level I wonder if I'm wishing my life away. I remember a time when winter wasn't so bad, and in fact, was often enjoyable. I might like to capture some of those pleasant winter memories in words at some point before they completely escape me — or before the ability to capture things in words completely escapes me.
More progress on the kitchen. The light at the end of the tunnel is becoming visible. We're almost at a point where the dishwasher can be hooked back up, and tonight, canned goods, boxes of food, silverware, plates, glasses, and coffee cups back in the cabinets where they belong. This frees up space in the dining room, where it was all being stored temporarily, and makes it feel like things are moving quickly toward a state of order.
The Christmas tree is down and is going back to the attic tomorrow along with all the other paraphernalia. This, too, will probably go a long way toward restoring a sense of order to this house.
I feel like, despite being in the depths of winter, there is motion beneath the frozen lakes and rivers. It's a good feeling, and one which leads me to believe perhaps this winter won't be so bad. Perhaps it's whatever I make it. Perhaps all things are.
