Winter storm watch

From the National Weather Service (who apparently likes to shout):

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.

A MAJOR WELL ORGANIZED WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT MUCH OF WEST VIRGINIA ALONG WITH SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY NIGHT. THE LOW CENTER WILL TRACK FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO NORTHEAST TO THE SOUTHEAST COAST BY FRIDAY EVENING... AND THEN RIGHT ON UP THE EAST COAST THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.

WITH THE LOW ORIGINATING IN THE GULF... PRECIPITATION WILL ADVANCE NORTHWARD INTO THE WATCH AREA LATE FRIDAY AND QUICKLY OVERSPREAD THE WATCH AREA FRIDAY EVENING. IT WILL START OFF AS RAIN OR A RAIN AND SNOW MIX LATE FRIDAY... BUT COOLING IN ADVANCE OF THE STORM WILL CAUSE A QUICK CHANGEOVER TO ALL SNOW FRIDAY NIGHT.

THE PRECIPITATION WILL REMAIN ALL SNOW AS IT CONTINUES INTO SATURDAY. ALTOGETHER... THE HEAVIEST ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR FROM FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY. SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATION IS LIKELY BY DAWN SATURDAY.

TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION POTENTIAL RANGES FROM A HALF A FOOT OR MORE FOR THE WEST VIRGINIA LOWLANDS AND A FOOT OR EVEN BETTER FOR THE MOUNTAINS WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE LATE SATURDAY NIGHT. LIGHTER SNOW WILL LINGER INTO SUNDAY.

Looks like the first big snow of the season is coming. Well, maybe. I've seen dire forecasts like this before and they've been completely wrong, even to the point where there was no snowfall at all. On the other hand, I've seen snow and ice storms come through with no warning at all... have, in fact, been stuck in some of those storms. A slippery Corridor G is no fun. Nor is a crowded downtown Charleston brought to a standstill at 5:30 in the afternoon when everyone's trying to get home and can't.

I'm not looking forward to the first big snow, of course. This one — again, if the forecast can be trusted — looks like it will leave lingering remnants through Monday in addition to being a doozy. It's not like I had any real traveling plans for the weekend or anything, but it would be nice to have the option available.

We'll see what happens, I guess. Maybe it will blow over.

I'll take it! Wish I was there, sounds like a good storm.
