The Dark Knight's dark night

Anyone who knows me outside of work probably knows my favorite costume is the good old trusty T-shirt. I've probably had hundreds of them in my lifetime, and I hang onto them until they've completely outlived their usefulness or relevance.

Batman shirt I'm wearing one right now that's over twenty years old. It's a Batman shirt, and I got it when the Keaton / Nicholson incarnation of Batman — which my poor children do not consider the "real" Batman — was popular. The shirt shows an even earlier incarnation of Batman, I'd guess 1970s era DC Comics. He's standing over some goons he's just beat up, fists clenched and ready for more, dressed in a dark purple suit with the black and yellow logo on it. At some point over the years, this became one of the shirts I sleep in because it was really too beat up to wear out in public much — maybe just a quick run to one of the little neighborhood mom and pop stores is all. You can't even tell the goons are people anymore.

Well, I'm sad to report this shirt is now developing some ever-widening holes and is probably on its last legs.

I've looked around on Amazon for an exact replica, because I love Batman's pose and attitude on this shirt. I looked through the first 1000 items and didn't find one. Yes, I said 1000. I'm pretty serious about this shirt. Most of Amazon's selections are just the logo, the more recent Christian Bale version of Batman (of course), and some other DC Comics choices — but not this particular pose. I went so far down the selection list that I hit the "long tail" and found really weird stuff like the logo on a camouflage shirt, and for some reason, shirts featuring Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Spiderman. Hey Amazon, you do realize Spiderman is Marvel Comics, right, and not DC? Blasphemers.

While we're at it, it's just Batman. Anyone who says "The Batman" is misinformed.

As is typical for me, though, I'm probably going to continue wearing this thing until it's just ripped to shreds (still not there yet). Again, at this point it's just a sleeping / knocking around shirt, and a few holes aren't going to change that purpose. But I know the end is near for it, and I hate to see that day come.

If you're ever going to throw away any shirts...holes, stains, or whatever...please give them to me instead. :)

I understand about the t-shirt--I have my own stash of holey shirts--but put me in the misinformed camp about The Batman.... Anyway, Make Mine Marvel!
